Sober Spaces and Continuations

چکیده

A topological space is sober if it has exactly the points that are dictated by its open sets. We explain the analogy with the way in which computational values are determined by the observations that can be made of them. A new definition of sobriety is formulated in terms of lambda calculus and elementary category theory, with no reference to lattice structure, but, for topological spaces, this coincides with the standard lattice-theoretic definition. The primitive symbolic and categorical structures are extended to make their types sober. For the natural numbers, the additional structure provides definition by description and general recursion. We use the same basic categorical construction that Thielecke, Führmann and Selinger use to study continuations, but our emphasis is completely different: we concentrate on the fragment of their calculus that excludes computational effects, but show how it nevertheless defines new denotational values. Nor is this “denotational semantics of continuations using sober spaces”, though that could easily be derived. On the contrary, this paper provides the underlying λ-calculus on the basis of which abstract Stone duality will re-axiomatise general topology. The leading model of the new axioms is the category of locally compact locales and continuous maps.

ON Q-BITOPOLOGICAL SPACES

We study here $T_{0}$-$Q$-bitopological spaces and sober $Q$-bitopological spaces and their relationship with two particular Sierpinski objects in the category of $Q$-bitopological spaces. The epireflective hulls of both these Sierpinski objects in the category of $Q$-bitopological spaces turn out to be the category of $T_0$-$Q$-bitopological spaces. We show that only one of these Sierpinski ob...

Two classes of locally compact sober spaces

We deal with two classes of locally compact sober spaces, namely, the class of locally spectral coherent spaces and the class of spaces in which every point has a closed spectral neighborhood (CSN-spaces, for short). We prove that locally spectral coherent spaces are precisely the coherent sober spaces with a basis of compact open sets. We also prove that CSN-spaces are exactly the locally spec...

Applications of Categorical Fixed-basis Fuzzy Topological Spaces to A-valued Spaces

As an application of the dual equivalence between the category of L-spatialC-objects and the category of L-sober C-M-L-spaces, it is shown in this paper that for a fixed augmented partially ordered set A, there exists a dual equivalence between the category of A-spatial augmented partially ordered sets and the category of A-sober A-valued spaces. Then, with regard to this duality, for a fixed (...

QRB, QFS, and the Probabilistic Powerdomain

We show that the first author’s QRB-domains coincide with Li and Xu’s QFS-domains, and also with Lawson-compact quasi-continuous dcpos, with stably-compact locally finitary compact spaces, with sober QFSspaces, and with sober QRB-spaces. The first three coincidences were discovered independently by Lawson and Xi. The equivalence with sober QFS-spaces is then applied to give a novel, direct proo...

The Categories of Textures and Topological Spaces

Abstract In this study, mainly, we introduce the category Tex of textures and texturally continuous functions. Relations with some other categories, particulary dfTex, fTex, are pointed out. It is shown that the categories CTop of C-spaces and a full subcategory of Sober of sober spaces are, respectively, isomorphic to Tex and STex of simple textures. Some properties discussed including the exi...
